Jess Indeedy Interview with Latitude Festival

I am so excited to be bringing my Musical Bingo to Latitude Festival 2013! Are you coming?

Latitude interviewed me for their Spotlight On section of their home page, you can read it below or indeed see on their website here.

We chat to the lovely Jess Indeedy ahead of her In The Woods appearance…

Wednesday, 5 June, 2013

We catch up with the uber glam American presenter Jess Indeedy ahead of her Latitude appearance with ‘Jess Indeedy’s Musical Bingo’ this July! if you haven’t already heard, Jess Indeedy and the ever-eclectic DJ Helix will be bringing a whole lot of fun to the Latiutde woods with their famously addictive Musical bingo! It’s just like normal bingo but with songs instead of numbers! Cross songs off your bingo card as you hear them, and compete to win some amazing prizes…we’ll see you for a game, or two, or three…

Which latitude are you on right now?
I’m in our office/music room in Canonbury, London and my husband, DJ Helix is playing records for me while I buy fun prizes online.

Sum up what you do in one sentence for anyone who might not know…
I mostly make parties – our most famous one is ‘Jess Indeedy’s Musical Bingo’ which we’re so psyched to bring to Latitude this year, but I also created ‘Lunchtime Disco’ (a daytime dance party in Shoreditch) and ‘I Love Lists’ (the world’s first list making night), and I’m also a singer, DJ, presenter and writer of run-on sentences…

Latitude Festival can expect…
A big boombastic party as everyone plays bingo in musical form.  I present the show, DJ Helix plays the tunes, players win some amazing and silly prizes, and this year we’ll have troupe of dancing bingo-loving grannies on stage called ‘The Granny Pack’. And it’s all going to go down in the middle of the woods. I can’t wait!

If I could one other person for the day it would be…
The longer I think about this question the more I get grossed out – I don’t think I’d want to wash anyone else’s private parts but my own.

The artist/book/record that changed my life was…
My mom was a painter so she definitely changed my life (or indeed gave it to me), and as for books, the ‘Oxford Dictionary of Quotations’ I believe changes my life on a regular basis. As far as records go we could be here awhile – I’d definitely say Carole King’s ‘Tapestry’ and anything from Bjork, John Coltrane and my man Mozart.

It might surprise you to know, but I am very good at…
Doing nail art. All you need is OCD and a steady hand…

My favourite place on earth is…
Wherever I can get my husband and entire family all in one place. This normally happens in Connecticut or New York where I’m from.

The last time I laughed until I cried was…
Last Saturday night, when I had a karaoke after-party at my house with dear friends.

When I was growing up, I wanted to be a…
Singer. I’ve always wanted to be on stage in a musical atmosphere so I’m pretty close to that I guess!

The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is…
Always take the high road.

We’re headlining the In The Woods stage on the Saturday night, hope to see you there!

Love, Jess xx

Probably My Favourite GIF Ever

I love sloths. I got to pet one once when DJ Helix and I were on honeymoon in Costa Rica. Until now I’ve never seen a sloth with attitude because they smile all the time. Behold:

Hummus Bros. – Online Allergy Eliminator Menu

Another post for any of my readers with food allergies and intolerances:

Bravo to London masters of the chick pea, Hummus Bros. for their online allergy eliminator menu:

I loved this place already, but even more so now that I know they’re allergy-saavy. Well done guys.

Gluten-Free Pizza In London

Having recently discovered that I’m one of those gluten-free people, I’ve found myself in a constant search for gluten-free versions of foods that I just can’t live without.

One of these foods is PIZZA.

Across the pond, both of my sisters and one of my nieces have the coeliac gene so I’m pretty well-versed in American gluten-dodging, but being a Londoner I’ve now got to find my own path over here.

I’m pleased to tell you that I have found a place called Stringray Cafe that serves excellent gluten-free pizza right in my neighbourhood! So I thought I’d share it with my readers in case you guys are GF too. They’ve totally conquered the shrinking pizza base problem, resulting in a lovely normal-sized pizza.

My choice, the gluten-free Veneziana.

Helix’s choice, the GF Florentina. Notice the scale of the pizza against knife and fork – it’s normal sized!

There are three Stringray Cafes in London, in Highbury, Tufnell Park, and Columbia Road, and all of them offer GF pizza. They are baked in the same oven as regular pizza though, so if you are extremely sensitive and want to avoid cross-contamination you may want to give this a miss. Otherwise, buon appetito!

Watch this space for more gluten-free pizza reviews, because I will certainly be trying them all. I eat more pizza than a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and The Ramones combined.

I’ve also found an excellent source of recipes and in-depth explanations and support for various food intolerances through The Adventures Of Limited Eating (
http://limitedeating.com
) by London-based nutrition consultant Casey LaZonick. Her site even features restaurant guides for people with food intolerances in various cities across the world! Definitely worth a visit.

I plan on experimenting with GF baking in coming weeks, if I come up with anything earth-shattering I will put the recipe on here!

With love,

Jess Indeedy

Lunchtime Disco Style File – April

My New Favourite Blog

A good friend of mine introduced me to this blog yesterday, and it actually made me shed a tear of joy.

I don’t often blog about other blogs, but I think this love needs spreading.

Behold: Mrs. Fletcher’s Closet - a blog dedicated to the sartorial choices of Jessica Fletcher of Murder, She Wrote.

horse1-copy-2

It’s like a dream I never knew I dreamt has come true. I mostly watch Murder, She Wrote because of the fashion worn by Jessica. Also I feel I have a lot in common with her: she’s a New Englander, I’m a New Englander, we have the same name, she doesn’t take shit from anyone, neither do I…

My favourite bits are when she travels to the UK (and often has an identical cousin with an amazing British accent).

Enjoy, and hope your heart sings as much as mine does when I read this blog.

Love,

Jess Indeedy xx
